OnePlus 5T face unlocking feature, coming soon on the One Plus 5

OnePlus 5T is the mid-year refresh from the Chinese OEM for its popular OnePlus 5smartphone. OnePlus implemented the on-going trendy things such as the 18:9 aspect ratio display on the OnePlus 5T and it also came with a facial unlock feature as well. But it wasn’t a fully fledged Facial recognition feature like you get on the AppleiPhone X with a range of sensors, baked into its top notch.

Surprisingly, the face unlocking was found to be much faster on the One Plus 5T compared to the iPhone X as it doesn’t wait for the user to swipe to get to the home screen. It may not be super accurate or secure like Apple’s flagship, but it is faster and gets the job done.

Today, OnePlus announced that this blazing quick face unlocking feature would also be making its way to the OnePlus 5. The news was announced today on Twitter by One Plus Co-founder Carl Pei, and this update has been released as a Christmas gift for OnePlus 5 users.

He mentioned in the tweet that this effort was made due the string community feedback from 1+ five users, so the company decides to give it a shot and here we have an official confirmation of it. What this also means that OnePlus 5T’s face-unlock isn’t dependent on any specialized hardware and seems like it’s based purely on software, which means a possible port for other devices(also on One Plus 3/3T) will surely be on its way soon.
