Asus ZenFone Android 9 Pie Update – Official List and Release Date

Asus recently unveiled its Zenfone 5 2018 series which sparked quite a controversy about its design and uses of AI within the UI. However, the Taiwanese giant was pretty keen and did deliver what it promised last year for its Zenfone line to some extent. Most of the Asus Zenfone 4 series is now running on Android Oreo, and so is the Zenfone 3 deluxe. However, we are not sure what the case is with other Zenfone 3 devices, but we will get to know more on that by the end of the second half of 2018.

28 February 2019: Asus has posted an official list of the Zenfone devices which will get the Android Pie update this year. As expected the Zenfone 2 and Zenfone 2 lineup is not included in the official Pie update list.

Update: Asus Zenfone 5 Pie update is now available to download, It is also expected that Asus will soon release the Android Pie based ZenUI update for their Zenfone 5, 5Z and 5 Lite phones.

Google has now finally given a name to the Android P 9.0, the latest version of Android has been named Android Pie 9.0. The update is already out for a set of Android devices and of course the Pixel devices as well, the question everyone is asking as always is when my device will get it or even is my device eligible for it?

And in this case, what Zenfones are eligible for the Android P 9.0 update, we shall take a look now. But before that let’s take a look at what the latest flavor of Android, brings to the table.

With that said, if take into account what Asus did previously with the Zenfone 3 and 4 both were eligible for the Oreo update. The same thing can be said this time, which the new Zenfone 5 series, as well as the Zenfone 4 series both, are eligible for the Android Pie 9.0 update. However, only the top variant in the Zenfone 4 series might make it to the Android P list.

Asus Zenfone 5Z Pie Update

The Asus Zenfone 5Z is selling like hotcakes, and it will be the first Asus device to get the Android 9 Pie update. The internal beta test of Pie update for the Zenfone 5Z is already going on, and we expect the rollout of Stable Android 9.0 update for this device in November or in Early December.

Asus Zenfone 5 Pie Update

The Asus Zenfone 5 2018 smartphone might have been overshadowed by its bigger brother the Zefnfone 5Z, but the device won’t be left behind when it comes to Android Pie update. The device will get the Android Pie 9.0 update in December or Early January.

Asus Zenfone 5 Lite Pie Update

The Zenfone 5 Lite will be the last device in the Zenfone 5 series to get Android 9.0 update. The update will be rolled out in Q1 2019 for the Zenfone 5 Lite.

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 Pie Update

The device has been the most selling Asus devices this year and will get the Android Pie update soon as well. The device comes with a close to the Stock user interface so rolling an update won’t be much of a hassle. The device will be getting the Android Pie update in Q4 2018.

Asus Zenfone Max M1 Pie Update

The recently announced Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, the device will be getting the Android Pie update in Q1 2019 as confirmed by Asus.

As these devices were launched with at least Android Oreo 8.0 out of the box and on top of that Asus promised earlier to tone down on duplicate apps, and other bloatware and the company did that with the latest version of ZenUI. The Company now should be able to deliver the Android Pie update for the Zenfone 5 series by Q3 to Q4 of 2018. The Zenfone 5 Lite which is a budget offering, it should get it by the end of 2018 or in early 2019.

Zenfone Max M2 and Zenfone Max Pro M2 Pie update

Asus has confirmed that the recently launched Zenfone Max Pro M2 and Max M2 will get the Android Pie update in January 2019, However, the full rollout of the update may take some weeks.

Zenfone Lite L1 Pie update

The company hasn’t confirmed anything about the Zenfone Lite L1 pie update, but we expect the update to arrive somewhere between Q1, Q2 of the year 2019.

The Asus Zenfone 4 Pro (ZS551KL) will be the only device in the Zenfone 4 Series to get the Android Pie update. The device is expected to get the Pie update in Q1 2019.

Zenfone 4 devices should start getting the Android Pie 9.0 update by Q1 2019, that’s early 2019 or by the end of Q2 2019. Which is a long way to go? Sadly, the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie pro models won’t be getting the Android Pie 9.0 update, as that’s still a budget device with decent speaks and Asus already have plenty of top end devices to update in the 5 series line-up.
