If you have been waiting for a Funtouch OS 16 update on a vivo phone, it is not coming, and not because your device was dropped. vivo has retired Funtouch OS globally and replaced it with OriginOS, the software it previously reserved for China. The vivo Android 16 update is real and rolling out, it just arrives under a different name than most owners expect.
The quick answer: vivo’s Android 16 release is OriginOS 6, not Funtouch OS 16. vivo has retired Funtouch OS globally and moved every eligible phone to OriginOS via an over-the-air update, and the same applies to iQOO devices. The rollout began in November 2025 with the X200 Pro, X200, X200 FE, X Fold 5 and V60, expanded mid-November to the X100 Pro, X100 and X Fold 3 Pro, and covers more than 30 devices with full deployment expected by mid-2026. Eligibility is simple by vivo’s own account: any device with at least one OS upgrade remaining, which broadly means anything launched on Android 13 or newer. vivo has not confirmed a global Android 17 rollout, though a China-only OriginOS 7 beta opened in late July 2026.
Funtouch OS is gone, and what that means
This is the part worth understanding before anything else on this page, because it explains why your phone’s update looks unfamiliar.
vivo ran two operating systems for years: OriginOS in China, and Funtouch OS everywhere else. They shared an Android base and diverged considerably in design, settings layout and default apps. OriginOS was generally regarded as the better of the two, and it was the one most vivo owners outside China could not have.
With Android 16, vivo ended the split. OriginOS 6 is now the global release, delivered to existing phones as a normal over-the-air update rather than requiring new hardware. Funtouch OS 15 was its last version.
Practically, this means the update changes more than a version number. The launcher, the settings structure, the notification design and the default app suite all shift. Your update entitlement does not change, so a phone promised a given number of Android versions still receives them. What changes is the software you receive them through.
OriginOS 6 rollout
Status wording is consistent across our trackers. Rolling out means a stable build is reaching devices. Expected means it fits vivo’s stated eligibility rule but has not shipped yet. Not eligible means it has been ruled out.
vivo’s own global launch announcement confirms the OriginOS 6 rollout is worldwide rather than China-only, while also noting that the exact upgrade order can vary by market. So a device marked Rolling out has started receiving the update somewhere, but your own unit may still be a few weeks behind others on the same model depending on region.

iQOO devices
iQOO is vivo’s performance sub-brand and runs the same software, so it moves to OriginOS 6 on the same program. vivo has confirmed all eligible iQOO devices migrate from Funtouch OS to OriginOS by over-the-air update.

The eligibility rule that actually matters
vivo’s stated rule is unusually clear compared with most brands, and it is more useful than any device list: any device with at least one OS upgrade remaining is eligible, which in practice means anything launched on Android 13 or newer.
That lets you answer the question yourself. Look your exact model up on vivo’s global security page, which lists the Android version each phone shipped with and the future versions vivo has committed to it. If a version later than the one you are running is still listed, OriginOS 6 is coming. If the committed list stops at the version you already have, it is not.
Do not use the launch version as a shortcut. It does not determine what is left. The V29 shipped on Android 13 and its committed list stops at Android 15, while the X200 FE is listed through Android 19 and the V50 through Android 18. The count is per model, not per tier, which is why this page does not carry a tier table. iQOO owners have a separate compiled one in the iQOO tracker.
It also explains why the Y series sits in the latest batches. Those devices typically carry fewer upgrades, so many of them are spending their final one here.
What about Android 17?
vivo has not confirmed a global Android 17 program, but the software behind it is already moving. vivo opened beta recruitment for OriginOS 7, the Android 17 build, in China from 30 July to 4 August 2026, limited to the vivo X300 Pro, X Fold 6 and Pad 6 Pro plus the iQOO 15 and iQOO Pad 6 Pro. That is a China-only beta. No global rollout date has been set, and OriginOS 6 itself is still deploying through mid-2026, so most vivo and iQOO owners outside that short beta list will stay on OriginOS 6 for a while yet.
For most vivo and iQOO owners, OriginOS 6 is either the update you are waiting for now or the last major version your device will receive.
Which phones are unlikely to get OriginOS 7
As of 18 August 2026 I could not find a complete official OriginOS 7 eligibility or exclusion list from vivo, and vivo’s Weibo channel could not be checked from here. The question that can be answered instead is which phones have already used up the updates vivo promised them. Gizmochina worked through vivo’s published update policy and produced a list of models that received Android 16 and have now exhausted their commitment, which makes them unlikely to get OriginOS 7.
Read it for what it is. It is a derivation from vivo’s policy rather than a vivo announcement, Gizmochina itself calls it mostly accurate rather than definitive, and it only covers phones that received Android 16. A phone that never got Android 16 is not on this list and is not covered by it, so absence here is not good news. If your phone did get Android 16 and is not listed, the same derivation implies it still has at least one major version left, with the same mostly-accurate caveat attached.

Where vivo is sold
vivo is the largest smartphone brand in India by volume and sells heavily across Southeast Asia, and it has a meaningful presence in parts of Europe. It does not sell officially in the United States, so American readers looking at a vivo are looking at an import, where carrier band and VoLTE support is the practical obstacle rather than the software.
vivo’s strength is offline retail, which is a large part of why its software coverage online is thin relative to its size. It sells through physical stores in markets the major Android outlets do not write for.
What actually changes when OriginOS 6 arrives
Because this is a skin replacement rather than a normal version bump, here is what to expect on the day it lands.
The visible changes are substantial. The launcher, icon design, notification shade, quick settings and control center all differ from Funtouch OS, and the settings menu is reorganised, so paths you knew by muscle memory will have moved. vivo’s own app suite is also updated as part of the transition.
The general view among people who have used both is that OriginOS is the better software, with cleaner animations and a more coherent design language. That was much of the frustration when it was China-only. So this is a change most owners end up preferring, even though the first week involves relearning where things are.
What does not change is your data, your apps or your support entitlement. vivo has delivered this as a normal over-the-air update rather than requiring a factory reset. Backing up before any release of this size remains sensible, but a wipe has not been part of the process.
How to check on your vivo or iQOO phone
Open Settings, then System update, and tap Check for updates. To confirm what you are on, Settings, then About phone, and read the OriginOS or Funtouch OS version alongside the Android version.
If you are still on Funtouch OS 15, that is expected and your device has simply not reached its batch. The migration to OriginOS 6 arrives as a normal system update, and vivo has not required a factory reset for it, though backing up before any release of this size is sensible.
