Huawei launched the mid-range Android smartphone Honor 8X a few months ago. The mid-range smartphone is receiving EMUI which is based on Android Pie in China. In the meantime, the Honor 8X is confirmed for release in the US market in late December.

The previous devices of X series the Honor 6X and Honor 7X are widely regarded as the best smartphone of their generation. Honor is built on the success of Honor 8X. The sources have confirmed that 8X is getting the beta version of Android Pie update which is only confined to China.

Honor 8X Android 9 Pie update

February 2019 update: Honor 8X in Europe is reportedly getting Android Pie based EMUI 9 beta update. Also, in India, the update rollout will start soon.

23 January 2019: Honor India has finally opened the EMUI 9.0 beta update program that brings Android 9 Pie update to the Honor 8X devices. If you want to join the beta update then download Huawei Beta APK and then join the beta program. However, we advise you to wait for the stable EMUI 9 update for Honor 8X.

Update: Honor 8X in India and some other countries may get the EMUI 9 based Android Pie update in early 2019, the exact date for the update is not confirmed but according to a Weibo post, Both Honor 8X Max and Honor 8X will get Pie update in Q1 of 2019.

Huawei has started rolling out the Android Pie based- EMUI 9 update quite some time ago, but this update is only confined to the flagship devices. Until now the people who are the users of Honor 8X is China is receiving the Android 9.0 Pie update (EMUI 9 update) and they have strong hopes that their devices will get the stable version of Android Pie update in the first quarter of the forthcoming year 2019.

By the looks of it, this Android update looks quite interesting, and at the same time, it is impressive than the update of Honor 7X in the previous year. The Honor 7X did not receive any beta update until March 2018, but the drawback was that Honor 7X only received Android Oreo by the end of May.

Given that the Honor 8X is getting a sweet, creamy taste of Android Pie update, nevertheless the users of the much more powerful Honor smartphone, Honor 8X Max is left dead in the water. Moreover, the reason why Honor 8X Max has been left out might be because 8X Max is powered by mid-range Snapdragon 636 SoC whereas Honor 8X is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 710 SoC. HiSilicon Kirin chipset is developed and distributed by Huawei. HiSilicon Kirin chipset will have the upper hand over Snapdragon chipset as far as Android update is concerned. However, Honor 8X Max may get the update Android Pie update (EMUI 9) after the Honor 8X.
