Now that the Moto G5 Plus and the G5S Plus is out in the market for a while now, the rumor mill has started again prepping out information about the successor of these devices, that’s the Moto G6 Plus. This new leak comes from the infamous leaker Evan Blass, who claimed in his tweet that in the next iteration of Moto G line up would see the return of the Play Edition, that means there’ll be a Moto G6 Play, in next year’s G series.
Motorola first introduced the Play moniker in its Moto X series with the Moto X Play being the upper-midrange device, and the Moto X Style being its flagship. But in the following year, Motorola didn’t launch any Moto X series devices and instead, we got the Moto Z, which also had a Z Play edition along with that the Moto G series even got a Moto G4 Play.
So, that means the Play editions went from being a part of flagship series (X and Z) to the entry-level budget phone with the G series. And after a year of hiatus, it’s returning to the premium budget series of the G line up.
The Moto G6 Play will offer a similar design but with a compact screen size and also strips down on the specs. However, the Play series might at least one major update along few security updates, as it belongs the G. So, it’s a good idea to get a G Play instead of a Moto E. Because the future updates of a Moto E are now uncertain, while a G Play might get it.
The Moto G6 Play will be priced similar to the Moto E series, so we think Motorola should not expand its product portfolio to more than one or two devices in a single series.
