Motorola’s best selling smartphone series the Moto G5 series is still pending to get the Android Oreo update and so is the situation for the Moto G5S series as well. On Motorola’s Software Update page, the status is still shown as pending and there’s only a confirmation that the update will come, but when will it arrive is still unknown. However, Geekbench listing shed some light today as it mentions the Moto G5 with model number XT1670 running on Android Oreo 8.1 OS, which is the latest and final version of Android Oreo.
Which could mean that the update is being in development and now it might have reached the testing phase if this listing about the Moto G5 holds any truth? There could also be a possibility that someone might be testing the Moto G5 on a custom ROM based on Oreo 8.1. And another thing to note is that, whenever a device is set to get a new Android Update, it also gets listed on Wi-fi alliance’s website.
And currently, unfortunately, there are no signs of any Moto G5. Earlier the Wi-Fi alliance site listed a model number of a Motorola device which ran on Android Oreo and eventually it turned out to be the Lenovo K8 Note, and it did receive the Android Oreo update.
So, a similar case with the Moto G series is expected, if a Wi-Fi alliance listing shows up in the coming days that prepare for the Android Oreo 8.1 Update as it will be arriving soon, once a device gets added with new software on Wi-Fi alliance.
