How to get Android Oreo 8.1.0 based Carbon ROM on your Redmi Note 4

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4 is among the best selling smartphones in the Asian region especially in the Indian markets, the device is renowned for its great value for money proposition and long battery life. However, the device is still running on Android Nougat which has now become pretty old as Android Oreo is the new flavor in town. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 users want the latest Android experience on their phones, and hopefully, the device has a pretty good developers community. Now with their support, we have another Stable Android Oreo Based custom ROM for the Redmi Note 4, and in this post, we’ll take a look at how to get it and install on your device.

The Custom Oreo-based ROM today we’re talking here is called the Carbon ROM by XDA dev who goes by the name nikhil020. While the ROM is now in its stable state and you also receive weekly nightly for the same. With this Custom Rom, you can experience the goodness of Android Oreo in its vanilla stock form. However, this will get rid of your favorite MIUI skin.  The ROM weights around 540MB in size.

Prerequisites/ Requirements

  • At least 60% or more battery life
  • Your Redmi Note 4 should have an Unlocked Bootloader
  • Also, your device should be Rooted
  • Your Redmi Note 4 also needs to have TWRP or any other custom recovery installed

How to install Android Oreo-based Carbon ROM on Redmi Note 4

Step 1: To begin with, download the Carbon ROM as well as the Gapps from the links given above and place it on your Redmi Note 4’s internal storage.

[Convinience tip: You can also create a Fresh folder on your storage and name it Oreo Carbon ROM on your Redmi Note 4 and extract the downloaded files within that folder for ease of navigation when asked to Select the data/files to flash.]

Step 2: Now Shut down(Power down) your Redmi Note 4, next you have to Reboot it into the custom recovery mode (in this case it’s the TWRP recovery)

Step 3: Now, to reboot into a custom recovery, for instance in TWRP recovery, hold the Power key as well as the volume Down button (or maybe Volume up) simultaneously for a few moments

Step 4: Next, Select the Wipe option from the TWRP menu and after that, hit on Wipe Dalvik, Cache, and Cache partition as well

Step 5: Now, go back into the TWRP recovery’s main menu, and Tap on the Install option

Step 6: Next, browse the Carbon ROM that we have extracted earlier on your internal storage and Select it

Step 7: Once, Selected, now to flash the Custom ROM, just Swipe to confirm the installation, and the Carbon ROM will start installing on your Redmi Note 4

Step 8: Now again head back to the TWRP main menu and again tap on the Install option, now you need to browse for the Gapps file and Swipe to flash/install them as well

Step 9: Tap on the Reboot option of the recovery, and you’re done you get the Android oreo based Carbon ROM on your Redmi Note 4, the first reboot might some more time than usual.
