Nokia’s parent firm HMD promisedlast month that budget phones in its portfolio like the Nokia 5 and the mid-range Nokia 6 wouldstart receiving the Android Oreo 8.0 update within this year. Now the curtains are opened, and the Nokia 5 is getting the Android Oreo beta update. And reportedlyin the coming weeks, the Nokia 6 will also join it’s younger sibling.
The news was announced on Twitter by HMD’s Chief ProductOfficer, and the update is already available and seeding now for the Nokia 5, while the Nokia 6 will get the Oreo beta for Nokia beta labs should also be coming in the next week or so. Moreover, the new Oreo update for the Nokia 5 brings a stock Android experience as the Finnish company doesn’t fiddle around with skins and leaves everything stock and up for the user to customize it. Other Android Oreo features include the much awaited Picture-in-Picture mode and a highly optimized battery life.

However, it’s still unknown whether the major highlight that is the project Treble will be implemented or not. But then again the Nokia doesn’t come with any bloat as the vendor doesn’t have any skin over it. So, the project treble inclusion for the Nokia 5 and 6 isn’t that of a worrying issue, if compared to the likes of Samsung and LG, who has heavily skinned UI and bloat as well.
Lastly, on the other hand, the entry-level Nokia 3 will also get the Android Oreo directly, as the device has skipped the Nougat 7.1.2 update. The device is getting the latest taste of the new flavor of Android is much more vital here, then skipping a small version upgrade.
