It hasn’t been long since Google launched their first generation Pixel phones after ditching the big Nexus lineup of smartphones.

Google Pixel and Google Pixel Xl received great reviews from tech reviewers around the globe, and now these smartphones act as a primary phone for most of them which are a proof of the popularity of these phones around the world.

Some of the highlights of the first gen Google Pixel phones are:

  • Latest Android updates

Google Pixel 2: What to expect?

Everyone had a lot of expectations about the first phone from Google, now some of them were satisfied, but a majority of them had some issues with the phones. Some didn’t like those huge bezels at the bottom and the top, some wanted the IP68 protection and several other features on which the pixel phones came shortly.

So when it comes to Pixel 2, the expectations will be double, and Google would have to up their game to satisfy all those tech geeks.

Also, Google will be in direct competition this year with the soon to be released latest flagships from Samsung and Apple, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Apple iPhone 8.

So to make a dent in the high-end smartphone market, Google will have to do more than just upgrading the hardware.

Here are some of the expected features of Google Pixel 2.

Design and Feel

Now even though the last year’s pixel phones had huge bezels on the front and the top, also the phones were not on the slimmer side, but they still had a very premium look and felt to them, Google used high-class materials to give you that rich feel when you hold the device in your hand.

Now all of these flaws in the design would be taken care of by Google with the Pixel 2; we can expect a bezel-less display with more customization options like we see with the Moto phones by using Moto Shells.

Google will try to perfect the design of the last year’s pixel phones so that we could see a slimmer and compact looking devices this year.

Display

The Pixel Xl featured a 5.5 inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 256 pixels and a pixel density of 534ppi which resulted in a crisp looking display with excellent color reproduction.

The colors look natural and vivid on both the pixel phones; there were rumors about the Pixel 2 that stated that the device might feature a 4K display, but that hardly seems to be true as the 4K display will put a lot of pressure on the battery life of the phone.

We don’t expect much to be changed when it comes to displaying but we could see a boost in resolution and also some new display features such as Active Display.

Processor, RAM, and Storage

One of the major highlights with all the flagship phones of this year will be the all new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor which is the best from Qualcomm till date.

The Pixel and the Pixel Xl are already one of the fastest smartphones right now, and it would be fascinating to see how much smoother and quicker the phones will get with the Snapdragon 835 running under the Hood.

pixel 2 release dateThe Pixel phones feature 4GB of RAM which seems to more than enough to run everything you throw at your device pretty smoothly, The chances of 6GB of RAM in this year pixel phones seems vague as of now.

We could see an another storage option with the Pixel 2 with a new 64GB model along with the 32GB and 128GB one, or we could see a bigger 256GB model as well.

Camera

pixel 2 camera

The last year Pixel phones featured the Highest rated smartphone camera ever and this year we could see some new features such as Dual Lens or Dual Camera setup as we saw earlier in the Apple iPhone 7 Plus.

Samsung Galaxy S8 is surely going to beat the pixel’s record of highest rated smartphone camera so it would be interesting to see how Google makes a comeback with next gen devices later this year.

Battery

Google pixel charging

One of the major highlights of the last year Pixel phones were the fast charging technology which promises to give you 7 hours of juice in just 15 mins of charging, well the Pixel delivered on this promise and this year Pixel phones are going to be much better when it comes to battery.

There will be a significant increase in battery capacity at least with the XL model, also with Quick Charge 4.0 support claims are already being made that this time just five mins of charging will give you a 5-hour battery life.

Also, we could see support for wireless charging as well.

Release Date

It is very likely that Google will reveal the new pixel phones along with Android 8.0, so a release date in mid of October or early November seems likely.

The new devices will be up for pre-orders on the date of their announcement with a 2-week shipping date.

The phone will be available to buy in India via Amazon. In and Flipkart.com and also via retail stores such as Croma and Reliance Digital stores from December onwards.

Price

One thing which took every nexus lover by surprise was the pricing of Google Pixel; the Nexus series was famous for providing top-notch hardware and software combo at an affordable price.

But Google went all pricey with the pixel phones and priced them to compete with the likes of Apple iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge; we could expect a similar pricing strategy for Pixel 2 as well.

Here are the expected pricing details for the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

CountryPixel 2Pixel Xl
India₹ 56,999.00₹ 65,999.00

UK£599£719

Note- The pricing is for the 32GB model. For further updates about the Google Pixel 2, stay tuned.

Could the Pixel phones’ popularity amongst tech writers possibly be due to them being passed out as party favors?

    • When Google pixel smartphones were launched, I personally was not impressed by them. I am a OnePlus fan personally and have a lot of OnePlus devices and that’s because OnePlus smartphones are amazing and deserve all the popularity.
I was hating Google pixel smartphones for more than a week and then I got my hands on both pixel and pixel xl. My initial thought was that how odd the design is. I used them for a week and somehow I was not able to get back to other devices. Google pixel smartphones are all about their pure android experience. They felt a lot like iPhones and If you notice, people who use iPhones for sometime are not able to easily switch back to android. Maybe that is why pixel smartphones are famous. They are better than iPhone in my opinion and the feel is mostly same. It took me a lot of time to get back to OnePlus 3 and 3T. Just like tech reviewers , tech writers also test smartphones and then write their opinion. (Most tech writers, not all). I like both OnePlus devices and Google pixel devices. By testing then personally, you get to know how good they are and that’s why they are becoming primary device for tech reviewers. And it has been same since a long time and it’ll be same in future. We make the best smartphones our daily driver and by using the best smartphones for a long time, we are able to test and compare new and more powerful devices easily. A smartphone which has potential gets success for sure. Tech reviewers and writers tell their own experience with a smartphone and there are people who don’t agree and that’s because they haven’t tested these devices. I am sure that once you test these smartphones, you’ll have the same opinion. And if you notice, most of the reviewers who have Google pixel smartphones as their primary device had iPhones as their primary device in past. You switch to a better alternative if you have the money to spend and interest in the new device.
