  1. This is an old phone by now, but most everything I have has been hand-me-down throughout my life… (I won’t bore you and I’ll cut to the chase). I unlocked the bootloader of my xt1563 Moto X Play, and (presumably) have installed ‘twrp-lux-3.2.3-r1.img’ via the fastboot command — pretty sure that I used this command- string:

    fastboot flash recovery twrp-lux-3.2.3-r1.img <=(command-prompt in Ubunto 20.04 bash-shell)

No errors so far. (I also use Linux, Ubuntu 20.04, wherein 'adb/fastboot' has worked flawlessly until now.)

When I go to install SuperSU.zip (I've tried two or three versions by now; I don't think that's the problem) when rebooted in bootloader/recovery mode, I try to install SuperSU.zip and I get:

    qe 0/0
    Supported API: 3

    — Install/data/media/0/SuperSU.zip …
    Finding update package …
    Opening update package …
    Opening update package …
    Verifying update package …
E: failed to verify whole-fiile signature
    E: Signature verification failed
    E: error: 21
    Installation aborted.

So, what gives? Can anybody please tell me??? (Sometimes this stuff makes me uptight.) Also, something I read about "no verity" — probably has nothing to do with the issue at hand, but I thought I'd bring it up, anyway. ("…checked the air in the tires, lately? 3. In the third step, post TWRP installation, does the recovery mode mean, TWRP recovery mode because I am going into plain android recovery mode despite installing TWRP. thanks

  4. In the second step of TWRP recovery installation, there is a gross blunder, I would say.
The twrp recovery command should be “fastboot flash recovery twrp-lux-x.y.z.rx.img” and not just “fastboot flash”.
I kept on trying and finally got the right command on another website. Otherwise it is a great guide. Thanks a lot

  5. Hi,
While installing TWRP recovery the code you mentioned ..
    fastboot flash recovery.img (Without quotes)
    should be
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (Without quotes)
    else it wont work.
Please check if you can correct it
