BLU is a Miami-based company that sells unlocked Android phones through Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart, mostly under $250, and it publishes less about software updates than almost any other brand sold in the US. No page on BLU’s own site states how many major Android versions a phone will receive. This page exists because nobody else maintains one either.
The quick answer: BLU has made no public commitment to Android 17 for any current device. Every phone in BLU’s active lineup ships with Android 14 or Android 15 out of the box, and BLU’s own product pages, FAQ and support channels contain no statement about future OS upgrades for any of them. That is not unique to Android 17. Checked against BLU’s own device pages, none of the eight current smartphones lists a version-upgrade policy at all, only the Android version installed at launch. If a guaranteed multi-year update commitment matters to you, that is a reason to look at Pixel or Samsung’s A-series instead, both of which publish one; BLU does not.

Launch OS versions above are read directly from each device’s own spec sheet on bluproducts.com, checked device by device, not copied from a retailer listing or BLU’s umbrella catalog file. “Not committed” means no future-version promise exists either way. It is a gap in what BLU has published, not a ruled-out upgrade. Model numbers are matched to each device by its retailer SKU (Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and eBay listings all agree per device) rather than guessed from a naming pattern; G35’s number is additionally confirmed directly against its own FCC filing, FCC ID YHLBLU35W.
That table leaves out one thing on purpose. BLU also sells a separate line of carrier-locked prepaid phones through Walmart’s Family Mobile and Straight Talk under the View name (View 5, View 5 Pro, View Speed Ultra 5G), sold and supported through the carrier rather than BLU directly. Those aren’t included here because a carrier-locked device’s update path runs through the carrier. That is a different question than this page answers.
Did any BLU phone get Android 16?
No. None of the eight phones in the table above ever received Android 16, the version Google shipped between Android 15 and Android 17. Each one is still running its original OS. Check Settings, then About phone, then Android version, and that number reads 14 or 15 on every current BLU device, the same figures already listed above.
BLU’s own device catalog lists three unreleased models, the G42, G96 and K3, carrying Android 16 as their stated launch OS. None of the three has a working product page or a purchase link on bluproducts.com yet, so this is a catalog listing rather than a shipping product. Check back once a device page and a price appear.
Why BLU is harder to track than Samsung or Motorola
BLU’s own FAQ page covers storage, SD cards, APN settings, screen locks and ringtones. It says nothing about software updates: no mention of how to check for one, no version-support timeline, nothing. Each device’s spec page states the Android version it ships with and stops there. There is no BLU support article, press release or forum post from the company itself that promises a version upgrade for any phone in the current lineup, which is why every row above reads “Not committed” rather than a projected date.
That gap has a history. In November 2017, an over-the-air update to the BLU Life One X2 left affected phones stuck on the update’s login prompt, unusable until a factory reset that wiped unbacked-up data, reported at the time by PhoneArena and PCMag. That single incident on a nine-year-old device says nothing about current hardware, and BLU has shipped several device generations since. It’s included here because it is the most-cited reason people search for BLU’s update record before installing one, and it deserves a straight answer. It was one isolated, years-old incident, and nothing in BLU’s current lineup has a confirmed repeat of it.
How to check for a software update on your BLU phone
BLU’s current lineup runs close to stock Android with no named custom skin, so the standard Android path applies: Settings > System > System update (on some Android 14 devices this sits under Settings > About phone > System updates instead). Tap Check for update. If nothing is available, that is consistent with what BLU’s own channels show: no scheduled OS upgrade path for that device.

Is BLU still in business? Yes. BLU continues to release new devices, with the Bold N4 and G75 among its most recent 2026 models, sold through Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart.
Does any BLU phone get major Android version upgrades? BLU has not published a version-upgrade policy for any current device, and no official BLU channel lists a device that received a confirmed major version upgrade after launch. This describes what BLU has published, and nothing more. It is not a claim that no BLU phone has ever been updated.
Will my BLU phone stop getting security patches if it doesn’t get Android 17? BLU does not publish a security-patch timeline either, so this page cannot answer that with a source to point to. If security support length is a deciding factor for you, that is worth checking before buying rather than after.
