Xiaomi Mi4i was a pretty good device for its time, a perfect mini companion for the flagship Mi 4, back in the era. It has few of its share of shortcomings like overheating issues and sometimes the UI used to lag, but the camera was great. But the device due to its age is not eligible for the latest flavor Android that’s Android Oreo 8.0. However, that doesn’t stop it from getting the latest Android, as developers at XDA are always working hard to get the latest features and OS for an old device. And in case of Xiaomi Mi4i senior developer Shurkul (and his team members) has brought the Android Oreo update flavor with LineageOS 15 for the Mi4i users.
And with that said, if you to get the latest Android Oreo-based ROM on your Mi4i, then an Unofficial LineageOS 15 which is based on Android Oreo is available for the device, and in this post we’ll take a look at how to install it on your Mi4i, using TWRP custom recovery. Furthermore, another essential pro tip by the developer of this ROM is that; you should be running on firmware version 8.1.5.0, if you don’t, then download it and flash it, or else the process given below to flash LOS 15(Android Oreo) won’t work.
But before we get started, here are some things that you will need, to perform the following procedures given below.
Requirements
- A complete backup of all your Data
- Bootloader unlocked with a Custom Recovery installed (TWRP or CWM) and Root access
- Download LineageOS 15(Unofficial) for Mi4i
- Download Gapps (Stock Google Apps)
- Download Firmware version 8.1.5.0
- At least 60% or more Battery in reserve/phone charged
Once, you are running on the above-mentioned firmware version you’re ready to roll.
How to install LineageOS 15 (Android Oreo 8.0 Update) on Xiaomi Mi4i
Step 1: Download the LOS 15 ROM and Gapps from the links given above and place it on your Mi4i’s internal storage, or make a New folder named LOS 15 and extract the downloaded files in that folder for ease of navigation later.
Step 2: Now shut down(Power Off) your Xiaomi Mi4i and Reboot into the custom recovery mode
Step 3: To reboot into the custom recovery, for instance in TWRP recovery, hold the Power Button as well as the volume Down Key(or maybe Volume up) simultaneously for a few of moments (10 secs)
Step 4: Next, Select Wipe from the TWRP menu and after that, Wipe the Dalvik, Cache and cache partition
Step 5: Now, once you boot into the TWRP recovery, hit the Install button, within the menu
Step 6: Next, browse the LOS 15 file that we have extracted earlier and Select it
Step 7: To flash the Swipe to confirm and the LOS 15 will start installing on your Mi4i
Step 8: Now again go back to the TWRP main menu screen and again tap on Install, navigate to the Gapps file and Swipe to flash them as well
